Lynyrd Skynyrd and Praising the Lord

Last night I went to St. John to get Shane from the airport and on my way there I was listening to the greatest American band ever Lynyrd Skynyrd. I love those guys. I don't know what it is about those guys, but their music is almost perfect. Okay so I suppose that I inadvertantly just made a case for truth being relative. But none the less they have a dang good sound. Seriously, who can argue with three guitars? So as I was driving I was also thinking ( wow thats like three things at once, aren't you proud mom) why can't they make worship music sound like this. The only Christian band that I have heard that is close is Third Day, they are good. So I will ask the question again "Why don't we have worship music like that"?
I have been thinking alot about that the last 24 hours or so and I came to a conclusion, I think. The conclusion: It doesn't matter. I think I heard twice today the concepts of truth and experience being contrasted. I want to worship God in truth. If I demand that the music be of a southern rock sound compariable to that of Skynyrd then I am focusing on the experience. Experiences are good but I can't let my feelings about them be my measure for my relationship with Christ.
Well I did it. I listened to a band my mom doesn't really approve of and I grew closer to Christ.
talk to you all later,
jeff

  1. Nice post, I tried it with weird al and did not get the same results. Kidding, know what you mean though, but let me tell ya, Crowder is just spiffy when it comes to praise. But ya, put a pick of Mt. Rushmore up for ya on our blog cause I know how much you like dead peoeple (Lynrd Sknard - didn't he die in a plane crash, again kidding man). Hey you guys rock have a great week.
