Anniversary Weekend

Sunday was our two year anniversary and we decided to celebrate it at the coast. We had originally kicked around the idea of going to Seattle, but because this was also Jeff's last weekend here, we decided on somewhere a little closer to home. This was definitely not a well thought-out weekend, but it was incredible. We had planned on going to the coast on Friday after running a few errands, but by the time we had gotten everything done, it was way too late to head over there. We were hoping to get to Newport by noon or so on Saturday to do some crabbing (that was high tide, and we read that's when crabbing is the best). However, being that neither of us are morning people, we didn't even get going to about that time. It took a lot longer than expected to get all the crabbing stuff we needed (a license, a ring, bait, etc.) because we had no idea where we were going or what we were doing. Once we finally got everything we needed, it was getting late and we still wanted to do some swimming so we only threw the ring over a few times before packing up and heading to the beach house. It was a beautiful day and perfect for swimming (well, at least as perfect as the Oregon coast gets). It was about 75 with NO wind. We bought a couple body boards and played on those. This was a first for both of us, and it was a blast! After we had had enough swimming, we built a fire and cooked hot dogs and s'mores. Then it was back to the dock to do some more crab fishing. We caught quite a few before the bait (and hook) flew off and abruptly stopped our crabbing adventure. We thought about camping out Saturday night, but Jeff wanted to say bye to some people at church so we drove back to Salem and got home around 1:30, cooked (and ate) our crab, and then finally went to sleep.

After church on Sunday, we rushed back to the beach for some more crabbing. Sunday was a typical day on the Oregon coast, so there was no swimming :( Once again, we got to Newport later than we hoped so the crabbing wasn't so hot. We still stayed for a few hours though. Both of us thoroughly enjoy the "thrill" of catching stuff, so even though we had to return our rented ring, we went and bought one so we could return at night for high tide. In fact, we decided to do this rather than going to Portland for a nice dinner like we had originally planned. Instead, for dinner we went back to the beach house and cooked the crab that we caught (and bought) over a fire. It was tasty! We spent another romantic evening there watching the sun set. Around 10:30 we headed back to the dock for more crabbing and stayed there until about 1:30. We had a good time and caught lots of crab.

Even though we really didn't do anything we planned, we had a great time. The weekend was full of spontaneous excitement. Much better than a fancy hotel and dinner anytime! Sadly, all the pictures are on our desktop which is with Jeff on its way to Oklahoma, but I'll post some as soon as I can. Have a great day everyone. much love
